I bought this as an affordable option to the CD version of planet sounds. I listened to snippets of these recordings elsewhere and was entranced. I thought, what an awesome background for meditation! Being into the woo-woo, I could select planet sounds for meditation based on what I wanted to accomplish. VERY COOL.Well, since the tracks are merely numbered instead of named, there's no way to tell what planet is which.I had never purchased an audible file before, and I was bothered by the DRM and need for special programs or to use a browser-based option to listen and the requirement to install the audio manager on my computer. If I were using the audible service for something else, it would be a non-issue but I would not recommend it for a single purchase as there are too many hoops to jump through.Also while it's not the end of the world, I agree with the other review that the "audible" announcement at the beginning does not add to the value of this purchase.

Note that NASA had nothing to do with these recordings. The original version of these were produced by a chiropractor, Jeffrey Thompson, who was interested in marketing "therapeutic audio" through his company Brain/Mind Research. He obtained recordings that were publicly available from the Voyager PWS (plasma wave) researchers, and some of these were likely mixed into his products. However, the final results sound essentially nothing like the original natural signals. Of course there is nothing wrong with using these public domain data in creative works, but it was more than a little misleading to suggest that they represented the unmodified Voyager plasma wave recordings.A complete set of the natural Voyager data converted to audio files is available on the web from the PWS research team at The University of Iowa. The unmodified Voyager audio occurs in 48-second segments that are quite a challenge to sift through to find interesting bits. The natural audio tends to be far less interesting, less soothing, and less marketable than these products.There's nothing wrong with these creative works, inspired by and maybe even containing some of our plasma wave data, but, no, the planets do not emit meditation music.

Audible file wouldn't work but book was refunded without question. Book disappointing but customer service excellent.

About the Author

Ansel C. Ugural is a visiting professor of mechanical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey. He has held faculty positions at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he has served for two decades as a professor and chairman of the mechanical engineering department. Professor Ugural earned his MS in mechanical engineering and PhD in engineering mechanics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. About the Author
Deborah Forman is a practicing artist and a passionate teacher of art with twenty years of experience instructing students from ages two to eighty. She is currently an instructor in continuing education at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Deborah specializes in teaching the fundamentals: drawing, two-dimensional design, color theory, beginning to advanced painting, and conceptual approach to painting and materials. In her own painting practice, Deborah works within the realm of geometric abstraction, with emphasis on the phenomena of color interaction. Deborah earned her bachelor of fine arts degree in 1992 from Rhode Island School of Design. She went on to earn a master of science in art education in 1996 from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, a school that believes teaching is an art form, with an emphasis on process over product and the importance of play and risk taking for artistic growth. Deborah has a master of fine arts in painting from the Parsons School of Design, where the focus of the program was contemporary art and theory, graduating in 2001. Deborah has exhibited her paintings in Rhode Island as well as in various other venues throughout New England. She also provides a creative workshop series that can be used in a variety of settings.
